Peter Hay is the Managing Director of Hay Property Consultants Pty Ltd. and is a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute (Valuer and Land Economist) and holds an Associate Diploma of Valuations (RMIT). He also has a Certificate of Business Studies majoring in Real Estate, is a fully licensed Real Estate Agent, a Member of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria and holds an Associate Diploma of the Real Estate Institute of Australia and is accredited as a Sworn Valuer for Victoria from the Real Estate Institute of Victoria.
Prior to forming Hay Property Consultants in 1996 Peter was a Director of Brendan Rice Pty Ltd. Valuers for 10 years and previously worked with Mr. Brendan Rice for 6 years. He qualified as a valuer in 1982 and during the past 23 years has gained extensive experience in valuing all types of properties including commercial, industrial, rural, residential and specialist type properties throughout the Metropolitan area of Melbourne and rural Victoria; including suburban and country hotels and motels, caravan parks, multi-unit developments and feasibility analysis of medium density sites suited for redevelopment.
Peter is currently on the panel of valuers for most state government departments together with most Victorian banks, building societies and financial institutions. He completes valuations for mortgage purposes, compensation and government acquisitions, litigation, rental determinations, insurance, pre-purchase and sale advice. He has completed many specialised rural valuations ranging from large size grazing properties, dairies, orchards, cool stores and cropping properties through to horse studs, equestrian centres and hobby farms. In recent years he has assisted many mortgagees in providing specialist advice regarding realisation values, methods of sale and feasibility analysis in respect of alternative uses.
Peter is also an External Studies Teacher and part-time lecturer in valuations at the Chisholm College of TAFE and Dandenong, Outer Eastern and Northern Metropolitan Colleges of TAFE, together with over 8 TAFE Colleges throughout country Victoria.
He is frequently interviewed by the Age, Herald Sun, B.R.W and the Financial Review on a broad range of valuation and property risk management issues, has provided guest speaking services to various banks on current property values and market trends, the Victorian College of Pharmacy night lecture series on buying or leasing your own business premises, the Bank of Melbourne on current property valuation issues from a mortgage lenders perspective. In recent times he has appeared on radio and television providing commentary and advice on various Real Estate Topics.
